NUTRITION
Nutrition is extemely important.
While many people (and I am one of them!) believe that there might be a way to control the disease by eliminating certain foods, no diet has been proven to cure or prevent MS but a balanced, low fat and high fiber diet promotes healthy bowel function and helps you be in the best possible shape to deal with whatever challenges MS brings your way!
Food is the fuel of our bodies and it’s important to make good choices and eat as many organic products as possible to avoid ingesting pesticides and other harmful substances.
These are very simple steps to take:
- Eat three fruits every day (organic berries are great!)
2. Add beans to your diet.
3. Eat lots of vegetables and choose a variety of them.
4. Stop eating when you are satisfied.
5. Eat whole grains such as brown rice, whole wheat bread, and whole grain cereals.
6. Enjoy two sources of low-fat dairy products every day: milk, yogurt, low fat cheese.
7. Use olive oil.
8. Limit or eliminate saturated fat.
9. Eat three meals every day. Never skip meals!
10. Drink more water. Plain water. (I drink more than 2 liters a day).
11. Aim for variety of fruits and vegetables, fish and lean meats.
- Include as much fresh food as possible and cook your own!
13. Eliminate processed foods and fast foods.
- Eat fish twice a week (salmon, mackerel, sardines)
15. Don't forget to enjoy a small amount of nuts as a snack.
